Dental insurance

A standalone insurance policy, dental insurance covers only healthcare associated with dentistry. This is usually included in more comprehensive health insurance policies, but may be taken out as is by younger insureds in good health who want to pay lower medical insurance premiums. Dental insurance may also be taken out by companies as a group benefit they offer to their employees.

Comprehensive dental insurance includes all dental procedures and bi-annual checkups as well as orthodontic work. As it is included in most healthcare policies, it often makes more sense to pay a slightly higher premium for full medical cover than merely dental. Other basic health insurance plans may have dental insurance as a top-up cover.
