Aviation insurance is specialized insurance that covers aircraft from perils related to the normal operating of air vehicles. These include fixed-wing aircraft, such as planes, jets and hang gliders, as well as rotary-wing aircraft, such as helicopters. Typically aviation insurance covers All Risks, hull damage, war damage and liability, whether the damage is caused in the air, while grounded, taking-off or landing. War damage usually includes protection against terrorist attacks and hostile takeovers, while liability refers to damage caused by the aircraft to third-parties, such as crash landing onto private property. Given the nature of aircraft and their expense, it requires a specialized insurer to underwrite aviation insurance.
