CEO of Zurich Southern Africa to step down in October - 24 Aug 2009 09:28
Chief Executive Officer of Zurich Southern Africa, Nick Beyers, has recently decided to step down as of October 2009. According to Beyers, the companies interests are best looked after if the position of CEO is not held by one person for too long - especially for listed companies.
Retiring after 12 years on the job, Beyers asks how much value a CEO can add to the company after ten years. The move will see the previously known SA Eagle, succeeded by Guy Munnoch - MD of Zurich Commercial and Municipal.
After joining SA Eagle in 1971, Beyers moved up the ladder from claims superintendent, through the business development and business management departments and succeeds only two former chiefs. Having transformed the way the company did business in terms of operational structure and technology, Beyers surprised critics who scoffed at his new ideas.
Retiring at the age of 62, Beyers has seen the company produce an underwriting surplus in the last 6 years and will be missed. He will see the smooth transition of Munnoch into the position until December 31 this year.
