Limited Liability Cover - 19 Aug 2009 22:27

This one is in between Comprehensive and 3rd party cover in terms of cover and price. If you are not able to purchase comprehensive insurance, another option is to take out limited insurance cover, also known as limited liability. This type of insurance, as the name suggests, will only cover your vehicle under certain circumstances.

Limited liability covers fire damage to your car, and damage on your part to another person or vehicle (third party insurance). Limited liability also covers theft and hijacking, but does not cover accidental damage to your vehicle, or loss or damage to property and/or injuries.

However, although limited liability does not cover accidental damage, it does provide cover for additional vehicle costs such as towing and storage, loss or damage to your vehicle as a result of fire, theft or high jacking, medical costs to an injured passenger, and liability to others in the event that an accident occurs which you are legally responsible for.

Limited liability cover can also be extended by adding various additional insurance cover, including vehicle sound equipment and accessories and car hire- in the event that your car needs to be repaired. It should be noted however that this additional cover is only available if specifically stated, and incurs a higher monthly premium.
